Color is more than just visual, it's vibration. In spirituality and magical practice, each color carries its own frequency that resonates with a specific chakra, emotion, and spiritual intention. This is why we use certain colors throughout our magical practices. When we consciously work with color, we align not just with aesthetic but with energy of that color. Of course we use white as the absence of color to substitute for any working, but let’s break down how each chakra and its corresponding color links to other spiritual workings, especially in rootwork and conjure.
Red: The Root Chakra
The root is your foundation. It governs safety, survival, stability and yes, your relationship with money. When this chakra is balanced, you feel grounded and secure in your body and life. The color red carries this frequency of rootedness and fire. Red is often used in Fiery Wall of Protection workings because it commands attention, sets boundaries, and ignites the flame of spiritual defense. Whether you’re protecting your home, your peace, or your prosperity, red is the color of bold safeguarding.
Working with red: Dress a red candle with protection herbs and oils, wear red. Also use herbs and oils on a candle to balance the root chakra.
Orange: The Sacral Chakra
The sacral chakra is your center of creativity, sensuality, and movement. It’s also the home of your “yes” energy… what you allow to flow to and from you. Orange carries the frequency of motion and attraction, which makes it ideal for road opening and blockbuster work. When paths feel blocked or stagnant, orange opens the gates and sends energy moving in your favor.
Working with orange: Use an orange candle or bath to break through stagnation. Pair it with herbs like lemongrass and High John for extra punch.
Yellow: The Solar Plexus
Confidence, clarity, and personal power live here. The solar plexus chakra governs how you show up and how others respond to your presence. Yellow is radiant and magnetic, making it the go-to color for crown of success workings. It calls in favor, recognition, and confidence.
Working with yellow: Burn a yellow candle while doing petition work for promotions, new business ventures, or leadership roles. Speak your success into existence.
Green: The Heart Chakra
Green is the bridge between the physical and the spiritual, between logic and emotion. The heart chakra governs love, compassion, and the energy of receiving. In conjure, green is commonly used for money drawing because money responds to feeling. If your heart isn’t open, your hands won’t be either.
Working with green: Create a money bowl or anoint a green candle with basil, money drawing oil, and cinnamon oil. Speak gratitude for what’s coming, and feel into abundance with your whole heart.
Blue: The Throat Chakra
Blue is calm, steady, and strong. The throat chakra governs your ability to speak your truth, ask for what you need, and express spiritual wisdom. When blocked, it can feel like you’re spiritually silenced. Blue is ideal for spiritual healing and self expression rituals, especially when trauma or people pleasing has kept you quiet.
Working with blue: Add a blue candle to your altar for truth and clarity. Speak your intentions and use your voice. If you choose to use a psalm, you can use Psalm 30, 6, or 107 for healing and restoration.
Indigo: The Third Eye
Indigo, the deep blue-violet of the inner eye, represents intuition, vision, and insight. The third eye sees beyond illusion. When you're seeking the truth of a matter or clarity about a path, this is where you go. Indigo is powerful for work… both literal (psychic development) and figurative (seeing someone or something clearly).
Working with indigo: Use indigo candles or oils in divination work. Add herbs like mugwort or star anise and speak prayers for clear sight and discernment.
Purple: The Crown Chakra
The crown is your divine connection. It holds your sense of purpose and your alignment with source. Purple is the color of royalty, wisdom, and high spiritual power. In rootwork, purple is used for power workings and High John rituals, calling on ancestral strength, spiritual mastery, and divine favor.
Working with purple: Dress a purple candle with High John root, frankincense, and myrrh. Ask for divine elevation and spiritual authority. If you choose to use a psalm, you can pray Psalm 8 or 75 and ask for divine elevation and spiritual authority.
Your spiritual work is only as strong as your alignment. Incorporating color into your rituals whether it's through candle work or simply your dress, can be a powerful way to unlock these frequencies. Tune into color consciously and see how it amplifies your work and shifts your energy.
